When a mole is not just a mole...

In random Ruby news, our little lady is starting to smile a lot. Magically, her smile can turn even the most stoic or grumpy individual into a cooing puddle of mush.

Her big brother Toby likes to keep a close eye on her.

As you can see, he is closely supervising tummy time!

We (and by "we" i mean "me") are lucky to get 4 hours of sleep in a row these days as Ruby is still waking up a few times in the middle of the night to eat. I hear that 12 pounds or 3 months are magic numbers associated with sleeping through the night...so we are crossing our fingers that there is more sleep in the near future.

Last week at the cardiologist she weighed in at 10lb 6oz. Her heart is looking good with only mildly elevated pressures and one more checkup required in 6 months.

This is what we want to see more of!!! :)

And what's the weird title all about? A few weeks ago, Scott was in Ruby's room changing a dirty diaper when he called out and said "Hey, did you see this mole that appeared on Ruby's bum?" Having examined most every part of my baby's little body at this point I replied and said "She doesn't have a mole on her bum silly!" but Scott was quite adamant ..."Yes, she does!"
"Did you wipe it?" I replied. "Of course I did!" he countered, "I swear it's a mole!"
I suggested he use the wet wipe with a little more vigor and ta-da!!! A sheepish voice emerged from her room..."Um.... I guess it's not a mole!"
Lesson of the day: Beware of moles that suddenly appear in the diaper area ;)

Stay tuned for more pictures and entertaining stories of exploding diapers and projectile vomit!!!
Her smile makes it all worthwhile.

We're boring and we like it

Somehow 3 weeks have passed since we arrived home!!
I know, I know... we haven't been posting enough blog updates to feed your addiction- my apologies ;) The truth is, we have a LOT less drama going on in our lives which is WONDERFUL but it's not exactly a recipe for the exciting, good-news-gravy-train updates you've come to expect. A number of folks have asked if we'll continue with the blog and the answer is... Yes. It should be a great way to keep our far-away family and friends up to date. Thankfully, we can now focus on documenting Ruby's cute foibles, quirks, and developments instead of the nail-biting, "she made it through surgery" updates. Consider this fair warning- we may be boring... but we're loving it :)

In the 3 weeks since our superhero has been home we have had a few pediatrician appointments and Ruby is packing on the pounds like a champ. We're also following up with a surgeon every 3 months to get x-rays, monitor her lung growth/expansion and make sure she does not have a weak spot or tear leading to another hernia (unlikely but possible). She meets with the cardiologist in the next week or so to make sure her heart is doing aok too (pulmonary hypertension).

Here's Ruby after bath time.

Scott started back to work yesterday so Ruby and I have been entertaining ourselves (i.e., eating and sleeping). When he returned home from work we realized that it was the longest stretch of time we had been apart since May 15th!!!! I'm all for romance and spending time together, but I think we might have become conjoined if we'd continued that much longer!

It continues to be sweltering in Atlanta which has made it difficult to spend much time outside but we have managed to get out a few times. Here is Ruby's first walk around our block (with Scott's Dad, sister, and Toby in tow).

This is a pic of Ruby and Horton. We are going to try to take a pic of her in this same spot (with Horton) every month so we can see how much she is growing. Stay tuned!

I have committed a cardinal sin by staying up and blogging since Ruby has been sleeping for the past 90 minutes... so goodnight!
Sweet dreams- I probably won't make it into a REM cycle to enjoy any... but hopefully soon!
