Ruby & Horton- a retrospective

Ruby's BIRTHDAY is less than a week away!!!!

In preparation for the big day, let's take a look back at how far our baby has come.

Month 1: This is one of our first shots of Ruby. We were so excited to welcome her into the world and so worried about her. Silly overprotective parents! We were unaware at the time that she was born with superpowers.

Month 2: She was getting a wee bit bigger and was HOME from the hospital!!! If she looks a bit pale, there's a reason. This picture was taken on the day Ruby went back to the hospital for a few days because of an infection (unrelated to CDH). It felt a bit too familiar :(

Month 3: We're done with all that hospital stuff!!! Ruby cheers on the Tennessee Vols for her 3 month birthday.

Month 4: Guess who was visiting?? :)

Month 5: Seeing Ruby so cozy has me wanting my own footie pajamas!

Month 6: Yay Christmas at the beach!!!!!

Month 7: Look how cute and still I am!!! (if only she had a switch)

Month 8: In case you didn't know... I'm a HAPPY baby!

Month 9: Horton concurs- crawling is the shizzle.

Month 10: News Flash!!!!! Paper is DELICIOUS.

Month 11: Ruby's "handler" keeps her in line.

Stay tuned for pics from Ruby's birthday celebration- coming up soon!!!!

Mama luv

It was my first official "baby-out-of-the-belly" Mothers' Day! It's pretty cool to be part of an age-old "mama-club" full of wonderful, strong, and supportive, super-Mamas.

This little cutie was my ticket.

We celebrated with one of my favorite things- brunch! When Mama's happy- everybody's happy :)
...and this post wouldn't be complete without a shout-out to my very own Momita whose love and support has helped me understand what being a good Mama is all about. I love the job but I'm still a work in progress- wish me luck!

Adie

11 months old

This blurry picture says it all. Our baby is doing anything and everything but sitting still.

I have exhausted my collection of weird noises, obnoxious whistles, and goofy faces. They've clearly lost their effect.

How naive I was 11 months ago- thinking we might get a cute picture of Ruby every month...

...sitting happily next to Horton...

...to document her growing into a "big girl." We'd better get good at taking action shots or we'll be out of luck!

Play date fun! Ruby decided that not having a bathing suit was not an excuse to stay out of the kiddie pool.

She loved splashing around in the pool but her diaper looked OBSCENE by the time she got out of there :) Next time we'll come prepared with suit and swim diaper!

Our outings and adventures have come at a small cost. Ruby recently got her first official cold followed shortly thereafter by another yucky bug. It's sad to see her looking sick and bedraggled but she's totally strong and ready to fight the bugs now- go Ruby!

I might pay for this later (sorry Ruby) but coincidentally, Ruby's first cold and subsequent crusty nose led to another "first"- Digging for GOLD!!! Only a ridiculously silly and baby-obsessed parent would document such a "first" on a blog. I don't know anyone like that.

She looks a little sheepish about it now- caught in the act.

What a little goofball. Did I mention i love this baby?

Easter was eggggcelent

Oops! Forgot to update the blog with a post on Easter.
We went to Knoxville for the weekend to hang out with Gramma, Aunt Jen, Uncle Jason, and the cousins.

Cousin Caitlin shows off her Easter basket.

Don't worry Easter Bunny- if a fire breaks out Carson is on the job!! Will work for Easter eggs.

Kennedy loves balloons.

Hangin' with Uncle J.

Help- Mom made me wear an Easter Bonnett!!!!

Playing with my cousin Kennedy. She's much better at sharing than I am.

Finally... after 10 months we get a picture with all of 4 of the McVeigh kiddo-cousins together!!

And 5-4-3-2-1...

Meltdown!

Maybe getting a picture of all 4 kids smiling and looking at the camera was too ambitious. We'll keep trying!
